Warm Weekend Plans Around Connecticut

The weekend is nearly here and if you are looking to get out of your apartment and around New Haven, we’ve got some great suggestions for you! Whether you want to enjoy the beautiful New England weather or stay inside one of our local venues, we have the perfect weekend plans for you.

When there are no leaves on the trees there’s no better time to check out wildlife around New Haven. The Eagle Flyer will be running all weekend long. You can leave from Essex Station and a vintage diesel engine will pull you through the forest and by the Connecticut River. There are departures at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars!

If you are feeling brave on Saturday, go for a dip in Long Island Sound! Money raised at the Colin’s Crew Polar Dip in West Haven will help benefit kids with life-threatening illnesses and their families. Registration begins at 11 a.m. at the Savin’ Rock Conference Center. Too afraid to go in the water in February? We don’t blame you! Try doing the chicken dip – you will only put your toes in the water. =)

New Haven is New England but not quite Vermont, however, we do have our own maple syrup. Why not see how it’s made? Stop by the Stamford Museum and Nature Center on Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock for a very sweet treat. See how sap becomes the syrup you put on your pancakes. We’re sure there will be some delicious samples to go around as well! Perfect to bring back to your apartment for a weekend breakfast. Their Maple Sugar Festival Weekend is also coming up in March!

Last but not least, head a little South and warm up at the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, where you will feel like you’re in Hawaii all weekend long. Try out a surfing machine or enter a Spam carving contest, plus all the usual family-friendly activities the Aquarium hosts.
