St. Patrick’s Day in New Haven

St. Patrick’s Day is only a month away and like many cities in New England, some people in the New Haven area are planning already planning for a fun day of green! If you’re into fitness, you can begin the St Patty’s celebrations by joining the St. Patrick’s PLR ShamRock & Roll 5k! The flat 5k course begins and finishes at Toad’s Place in New Haven, CT on March 6th. The ShamRock & Roll entry includes an awesome post-race party featuring food and beer, with the race limited to 2,500 participants.

 Since the mid-1950’s the St. Patrick’s Day Parade of Greater New Haven has become one of New England’s premier Irish events.  As the 6th oldest parade in the nation, its fame was recognized by the Library of Congress in 1999. The largest single-day spectator event in the state of Connecticut, the Greater New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade, begins 1:30 pm on Sunday, March 13th. If you don’t want to venture out into the busy streets you can also watch the live coverage starting at 2:00 p.m., on WCCT (Fox News Connecticut), and a rebroadcast on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, at 11:00 a.m. The parade begins at Chapel Street and Sherman Avenue, and continues on Chapel Street toward the Green. The route is just a short walk away from 360 State Apartments!

Before the parade begins, you can start the day off at Dunn’s Pub, where for $20 you get free parking, a buffet style breakfast, and a shuttle ride to the parade from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. with drop-offs and pickups on the corner of State and Grove.
