As the shortest month of the year, February seems to zoom right past, but before it comes to a close there are some fun events you should check out in New Haven this weekend.
Two events will take place this Saturday, February 27th, starting with a recently opened exhibit at Silk Road Art Gallery (83 Audubon St, New Haven). The exhibit is titled, The Third Reconstruction, and features work by abstract painter Karen Dow and figurative painter Luyi Xu. With a free reception from 4-6 p.m., the artists’ goal is to achieve “the transcendence of shape and color to a plane of human emotion.”
The second New Haven event of the weekend is from 6-9 p.m. at an upstart art studio, No Pop (130 Park Street, 2nd Floor, New Haven). Organizers have pulled together work by 20 local artists, including original installation pieces. They’ve also installed black lights, so be sure to dress appropriately with creativity, as “costumes and glow accessories are encouraged.” Nothing says art show quite like rave attire. 😉
As the 88th Academy Awards take place Sunday, February 28th, you can experience the glitz, glam and golden statues from inside the Regal Beagle (418 State St, New Haven), where filmmakers and lovers of film are hosting a watching party. Starting at 6PM, eat drink and watch Chris Rock as you cast your ballots for the night’s winners. The guest with the most correct will win a prize!
