As the end of summer approaches it’s not too late to get those fresh fruits and veggies you love and have been enjoying all summer! If you are looking for a fun outdoor activity there are several local farmers markets that will be happening throughout the month of August–most even going into the fall! Upper State Street Farmers Market will be continuing into October and is less than a five minute drive from us here at 360 State Street! Located at 1010 State Street there are four big vendors supplying the local produce for this market every Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm. Chestnut Fine Foods, Eagle Wood Farms, Gresczyk Farm and Killam & Bassette Farmstead provide much more than fruits and vegetables for New Haven and Connecticut locals. For the month of August watermelon, blueberries, apples and peaches are the in season fruits available. There is a plentiful list of vegetables to choose from, but some popular in season veggies to name a few include peppers, potatoes, cabbage and zucchini. You can look here for the full vegetable list. August herbs that are great to add seasoning and a dose of flavor to any of your favorite summer recipes you’re looking to make month include basil, dill and rosemary. Eggs, beef, lamb, sunflowers, jam and jelly spreads, bread and cakes are other goodies you can find at this local farmers market. West Haven Farmer’s Market is another local great shopping spot. With two days of shopping to be done you can visit Thursdays from 11am to 3 pm or Saturdays from 10 am until 2 pm. The marketplace is located at 355 Main Street. Craft sellers will also be included in the mix between browsing through all the local fruits and veggies as well as a DJ for music entertainment. On Thursdays you can find food vendors from local favorites! The trucks featured include DJ’s Grill, Elm City Kettle Corn Co., 744 Express, Spuds Your Way and Szabo’s Lobster Rolls. Saturday’s there will be live music as the special feature for the market. West Haven Farmers Market lasts until October 29th. Visit their Facebook page for updates, details and to ask questions. Here are a few more farmers markets in the New Haven area. Woodmont/Milford Farmers Market: Only 16 minutes form 360 State Street! Wednesdays from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Hamden Farmers Market: 15 minutes away from 360 State Street. This market takes place Mondays at Dunbar Elementary School from 3pm to 7 pm until August 24th and Fridays at Miller Library from 9 am to 3 PM through October 9th.
